To prevent disease progression and improve survival of patients with chronic kidney disease in the mild to more advanced stages through new treatment strategies developed on the basis of studies on pathophysiological mechanisms and intervention studies.
The experimental nephro-endocrine lab at RH has a long lasting scientific interests in basic physiology and pathophysiology, related to regulation and interaction of the hormones and ions (Calcium, Phosphorus, PTH, 1,25(OH)vit D, FGF23, Klotho and BMP-7 and other) involved in mineral metabolism, vascular calcification and renal osteodystrophy in uremia.
Our research also focuses on diabetes, glucometabolic alterations and the possible link to cardiovascular morbidity and mortality.
The program for transplantation related research is focused on immunological aspects of transplantation, rejection, immunosuppressive treatment and transplantation related complications e.g. infections, cancer and bone disease.
Epidemiological research, cohort studies, renal physiological, biochemical- and molecular methods as well as metabolic tests and clamp studies are used.
