Aktuel forskning

The aim of my study is to determine whether a comprehensive intervention simultaneously targeting coronary microvascular dysfunction (CMD) risk factors and angina pectoris is feasible and results in improvement in both CMD and angina.

Methods: Randomized, controlled, interventional trial.  The study aims to include 60 overweight women recruited from the iPower cohort* aged 40-75 with CMD and angina-like symptoms > monthly. The interventional program consists of exercise training, low-calorie diet and medical treatment with ACE-inhibitor, statins and metformin according to specific treatment criteria. Outcome parameters are assessed at baseline and after 24-weeks. CMD is determined by transthoracic Doppler echocardiography by the assessment of CFVR, the ratio of blood flow velocity in a coronary artery under (adenosine) stress compared to under rest. Change in CMD after intervention will be compared to change in symptom burden assessed by the Seattle Angina Questionnaire, inflammatory biomarkers and markers of metabolism, exercise capacity (VO2peak), body weight and fat distribution (DEXA), level of anxiety and depression (HADS questionnaire), systolic and diastolic heart function at rest and during stress including advanced imaging (e.g. Strain-Echocardiography).

*The ongoing iPOWER study determines the prevalence of CMD in 2000 Danish women with angina pectoris and no coronary artery disease assessed by coronary angiography.
