Anorexia nervosa (AN) is a life-threatening psychiatric disorder and the basis for evidence-based treatment is poor. Family-based treatment is the only evidence-based treatment available for children and adolescents with AN, but knowledge is sparse regarding which patients will respond to treatment and which patients will need another kind or intensity of treatment. It is an urgent need to determine neurobiological correlates that may act as predictors of treatment outcome in the AN patient group. In addition, we have limited knowledge of the development  that takes place parallel to successful treatment starting at the phase of acute illness with severe underweight and to follow-up after recovery.

The aims of the proposed study are two-fold:
1) We will map predictive factors at wave 1 that might predispose individuals with AN to chronicity or relapse.
2) More exploratory, we will measure physiological and psychological changes observed at remission and recovery to disentangle consequences of severe underweight and malnutrition, from deficits that constitute enduring traits in individuals with AN.

We will re-examine 30 patients who was diagnosed with AN at baseline and 30 control subjects. They will undergo the same MRI-scanning procedure as at baseline. We will clinically and neuropsychologically examine the participants with a subset of the neuropsychological test battery from baseline.
