Abstract

Spondylodiscitis (SD) is an infection of the spine, primarily affecting older or immunosuppressed people. The incidence is rising and with an aging population the burden of the disease is likely to increase. SD significantly impacts patient quality of life due to disability, morbidity, and mortality. Early diagnosis and treatment are important but challenging due to non-specific symptoms and comorbidities. Despite routine involvement of multiple specialities, multidisciplinary teams (MDT) is not standard in Denmark. Implementing MDT could improve patient outcomes and healthcare efficiency, as argued in this review.
