Abstract
Cancer patients often need pleuracentesis and laparocentesis. In order to reduce the time spent in hospital, the Department of Oncology at Hillerød Hospital offers these procedures to be performed bedside, using ultrasound. We identified all procedures performed between March 1 and December 1, 2012 and investigated the patients' medical files with regard to complications. In 29 pleuracentesises and 43 laparocentesises only one pneumothorax was registered (3.4%). This is comparable to previous studies and may suggest that it is safe to perform these procedures bedside in cancer patients with no complications.
