Abstract
Surgical education is one of the cornerstones of a safe, effective, and sustainable healthcare system. Over the past century, surgical education has evolved significantly. The traditional master-apprentice concept has been augmented by individualized educational plans, numerical requirements for completed procedures, specific learning objectives, and increasing digitalization. While these advancements are important to ensure that trainees can operate effectively in the increasingly complex surgical world, meeting high standards of quality and patient safety, they are not enough.
