The aim of the PRIORITY research project is to investigate the potential of therapeutic intervention with spironolacton guided by early detection of diabetic nephropathy based on urinary proteomics. Patients classified by urinary proteomics to be in high risk of developing nephropathy will be randomised to spironolactone or placebo to try to prevent or delay nephropathy from occurring.

The project will be carried out as a multicenter study involving 15 partners in Europe for 6 years.
