Methadone is prescribed to heroin addicts to reduce illicit opioid use. Methadone is capable of blocking the INR-current and cases of Torsade de Pointes (TdP) have been reported. The mortality among heroin addicts is high and considerede overdose related. This study assesses the alternative explanation that the high mortality in this population may in part be caused by a proarrhythmic effect of methadone.
