Personal profile

Expertises

Treatment of patients with aquired demyelinating diseases; Pathology and pathogenesis og multiple sclerosis with particular focus on the progressive forms.

Main research areas

Clinical-pathological correlations in multiple sclerosis (MS) with particular focus on

a) the differences between the relapsing-remming->secondary progressive phenotype and the primary progressive phenotype,

b) the importance of diffuse inflammation (i.e outside of plaques) is being studies and

c) the correlation between clinical course and the distribution of MS plaques in the brain, brainstem and spinal cord

Current research

As main research areas. An addition, we are applying for support to extract DNA from the tissue in order to investigate correlations between clinical-pathological characteristics and risk allele genotype and, if possible, epigenetic activation/inactivation of risk alleles.

Potential conflicts of interest

Occasional support from Genzyme and Roche for participatione in MS related meeting and congresses.
