PhD and doctoral thesis in stress and infectious immunology.

Consultant in transfusion medicine and blood component use in acute critical illness including hemostatic control resuscitation of substantially bleeding patients. Composition and quality control of blood components (medical chief of the Quality Control Laboratory, Capital Region Blood Bank, Rigshospitalet).

Interdisciplinary development of algorithms for diagnosing immune dysfunction and -deficiency in patients with disease or treatment induced immune dysfunction. Development and validation of new diagnostic immunologic methods.

Supervision and teaching of pre- and postgraduate and PhD students.

Main research areas

Coagulopathy, endotheliopathy and organ failure in critical illness.

Disease or treatment induced immune dysfunction.

Transfusion medicine and blood components.

Current research

Translational research focusing on pathophysiologic mechanisms contributing to organ failure, infectious complications and poor outcome in critical illness. Focus on coagulopathy, endotheliopathy, switch- and interplay between hemostatic and non-hemostatic (immunologic) platelet function, immune dysfunction and -deficiency.

Immune and hemostatic competence from a systems biology perspective taking the immune, vascular/hemostatic and neuroendocrine systems into account in revealing pathophysiology and testing novel interventions in critical illness.

Precision medicines approach to prediction, prevention and intervention in disease or treatment induced immune dysfunction (precision immunology).

Optimal use, composition and quality control of blood components.
