Personal profile

Expertises

I have been working as a junior researcher for three years at Rigshospitalet while studying my masters in medicine. After graduation I will start my phD in February 2017 at the Department of Surgical Gastroenterology in collaboration with the Anaesthesiology Department.

Main research areas

Perioperative monitoring of fluid balance and central blood volume during abdominal surgery

Current research

The project goals for the PhD thesis are summarized as follows:

  1. To determine whether changes in plasma pro-atrial natriuretic peptide (proANP) are associated with perioperative fluid balance during open and robot assisted-hybrid esophagectomy.
  2. To examine whether patients undergoing surgery for upper gastrointestinal cancer demonstrate a volume deficit after surgery as identified by plasma proANP.
  3. To examine whether controlled hypovolemia can be detected by plasma proANP during an experimental porcine model.
  4. To examine whether late versus early activation of epidural anaesthesia attenuates functional hypovolemia during open esophagectomy.
