FIELD OF SCIENTIFIC INTEREST

Epidemiology of Headache, Multidisciplinary treatment of headache, Medication overuse headache, Cluster headache, Idiopathic Intracranial Hypertension and CSF-regulation, Pathophysiology of Tension-type headache and neurological pain.   

 

RESEARCH DIRECTION

Supervisor for 3 completed doctoral thesis, 12 Ph.D. theses, 2 Masterdegrees

and for 1 ongoing Doctoral thesis, as well as 5 ongoing Ph.D. studies, 1 candidate- and 2 masterstudies. Supervisor for 24 pregraduate medical students, 4 physical therapists and 1 psychologist.

 

PUBLICATIONS                                                                                                                                           

In Total:  288 peer reviewed publications in national and international journals.   Books, book chapters and other publications are not listed here.

From 2013-2017, a total of 84 peer reviewed publications, hereof  68 original papers, 14 reviews, 2 editorials,  edited 2 international and 1 national textbook as well as 23 scientific book chapters (not listed).  Total H-index 61 and Citations 13624. Since 2012 H-index 43 and Citations 7112.

RESEARCH GRANTS

Received grants from the following foundations: Velux, IMK, Danish Technical Research Council, the East Denmark Health Science Research Forum, the Danish Medical Association Research Fund, the Danish Health Insurance Foundation, the Danish Hospital Foundation for Medical Research, the Danish Headache Society, the Cool Sorption Foundation, The Research foundation of the Capital Region, Erhvervsfremmestyrelsen, Migræne og Hovedpineforeningen, Hortonforeningen, EU (FP-6 and FP7), University of Copenhagen,  Lundbeck foundation and Tryg-Foundation.

 

TEACHING ACTIVITIES

1997- Lecturer in clinical neurology at University of Copenhagen

2004-2013 Course leader in clinical neurology (4.sem candidate).Continuous clinical teaching activities and examinations in neurology for medical students (70-90 students/year) and responsible for 2-5 annual national or international pre- and postgraduate teaching activities.

2013- Chair of an International Master Education in Headache Disorders at The University of Copenhagen.

 

PUBLIC OUTREACH

5-10 Annual contact to media (TV, Radio, Newspapers, Magazines, Website), regular contact and meetings with 4 relevant patient-organisations, teaching and participation in information campaigns in schools and institutions.

In 2016 a specific campaign against medication overuse headache was organized in close collaboration with Danish Pharmacy Organisation and The Migraine and Headache Society and sponsored by Trygfoundation.

Social media with films, slogans, quizzes and information leaflets were created and an education programme for the 400 Danish Pharmacies were conducted. The outreach was significant (i.e.The Facebook had more than 400.000 “hits” and the general knowledge about headache was monitored in a national survey before and after the campaign. On Nov 1, 2016 Sundhedsmagasinet (National TV-channel DR1) was focused on headache research from DHC.
