Broad expertise in basic neuropsychiatric and ciinical research as former head of Centre for Psychiatric Research, Aarhus University Hospital (professor in biological psychiatry and psychopharmacology), philosophy of science, history of psychiatry, research management (former clinical coordinating professor in Aarhus), teaching (author of several textbooks and chapters on neuropsychiatric issues)

Affective disorders (animal research on neurobiology, clinical research using neuroimaging techniques), philosophy of science (disease concepts and models, ethics), history of psychiatry (changing views on disease models, validation of disease models)

Current research

Electro Convulsive Treatment (ECT): Efficacy,  side effects and mechanisms of action studied by neuroimaging techniques.

The foundation of psychiatry: history, philosophy and science - several subjects published in entitled book are planned for further studies, including ethical issues in modern psychiatry
