I am a medical doctor doing a Ph.D in the field of basic virology. In my project we are trying to clarify the mechanism of action of the broad spectrum antiviral drug, ribavirin, which, despite widespread clinical use for at least 3 decades, has not been fully clarified.
In previous studies I have focused on epidemiological features of Staphylococcus aureus bacteremia. Especially the incidence- and short term mortality of Staphylococcus aureus bacteremia as well as the patient’s risk of arterial- and venous thromboembolic events after bacteremia have been investigated.

Current research
At present I focus on the mechanism of action of ribavirin on hepatitis C virus (HCV). My project is a translation medical project wherein we include data from ribavirin-treated patients chronically infected with HCV and data from cell-culture based in vitro systems supporting the full life cycle of HCV infections.
