Expertises

Stroke; small vessel disease; exercise and rehabilitaiton; high intensity training; endothelial function

Main research areas

Currently my focus is mainly on small vessel disease stroke and its consequence on cerebral perfusion measured by transcranial doppler ultrasound (TCD) and near infra-red spectroscop (NIRS) in addition to imaging by MRI.

Current research

Currently we are examining the cerebral perfusion in patients with small vessel disease stroke. Little is know about what happens with the cerebral perfusion during mobilisation and during rehabilitaiton. In addition, it is not known that effect high intensity exercise has on cerebral perfusion in patients with small vessel disease stroke.

We wish to examine this by measurement of cerebral perfusion by TCD and NIRS during mobilisation of pt. with small vessel disease stroke and to follow the development by functional imaging by 7T MRI of the brain at debut and at follow-up. In addition we wish to examine the relationship between impairment of cerebral blood perfusion and cognitive decline.
