Role of the intestine in the development of type 1 diabetes

Research Areas:

During my time at the Bartholin Institute (Department of Pathology, Rigshospitalet), my interest in the development of type 1 diabetes has led me into two focus areas: intestinal permeability and intestinal mucus lipids. With preventive strategies in mind, I aim to investigate why type 1 diabetes is a disease with increased intestinal permeability (genetic disposition, microbiota related, mucosal immune response). Furthermore, I have examined lipids in the mucus layer of the intestine in pursuit of strengthening the barrier function.

Key words:

Type 1 diabetes, intestinal permeability, intestinal mucus layer, mice experiments, NOD mice, scientific design/presentation
