Type 1 diabetes
My research interest covers psycho-social perspectives in relation to adults living with type 1 diabetes particularly how to provide psychosocial support at the early stages of life with diabetes.
My background as a nurse has allowed me to work clinically within the field of diabetes for more than 15 years with a particular focus on establishing collaboration across disciplines to enhance practice and research to benefit people with diabetes.
I have experience with co-design methods and various qualitative methods such as meta-synthesis and narrative approaches and also incorporate quantitative methods in my resesarch.
My post doc study focuses on exploring the adaptive needs of adults recently diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. The aims of the study are to) develop and test psychosocial support tools to facilitate adaptive strategies in adults following a new diagnosis of type 1 diabetes b) integrate these tools into a bio-psycho-social intervention co-designed with people with type 1 diabetes and healthcare professionals c) feasibility test the intervention d) and develop a protocol for an effectiveness trial.
