Individualized management in gynecologic cancer – how to handle comorbidity?
Comorbidity can be defined as the presence of other medical conditions not related to the index disease (here: gynecological cancer). As the populations in the industrialized countries continuously are getting older, both cancer and age-related comorbidity is becoming more prevalent. Unfortunately, cancer patients with comorbidity are known to have a poorer prognosis than cancer patients without comorbidity. The overall aim of this PhD project is to identify reasons for the negative prognostic impact of comorbidity in gynecological cancer and to point out how management of gynecological cancer patients with comorbidity may be improved.
