Personal profile

Expertises

I am a consultant in rheumatology at Rigshospitalet and an external clinical professor in rheumatology with emphasis on am arthritis at the University of Copenhagen. Furthermore, I am chairman of the steering committee for the DANBIO database - a nationwide Danish registry for biological and DMARD Treatment in Rheumatology. Finally, I am chairman of Danish Rheumatologic Biobank started in 2015.

Main research areas

My main research areas are treatment strategies in rheumatoid arthritis, including treat-to-target strategies and successful tapering of biologic drugs. Another research area is monitoring the disease activity of rheumatoid arthritis patientsin routine care. I am involved in investigator-initiated trials in this field, e.g. the NORD-STAR, the IMAGINE, the ADOPT and the DOBIS, trials. I am also involved in non interventional studies of biologic and bioismilar drugs in routine care,  and furthermore conduct epidemiologic research based on DANBIO, with data enrichment from other nationwide registries.

Current research

My current research includes investigating the safety and effectiveness of biologic and  biosimilar drugs in arthritis patients including immonulogical and health economic aspects. Furthermore, I am engaged in a collaborative initiative in RA, AxSPA and PSA patients between ten European rheumatologic registries. The above-mentioned trials are ongoing. We also have ongoing biomarker studies, aiming for a more personalized medicine in rheumatology.
