Expertises

Human exposure to UV filters in Denmark, Prophylactic use of sunscreens in prevention of malignant melanoma, Endocrine disrupting properties of UV filters on human health.

Main research areas

Human exposure to UV filters in Denmark, Prophylactic use of sunscreens in prevention of malignant melanoma, Endocrine disrupting properties of UV filters on human health.

Current research

1. Prospective study on 55 kindergarten children in Denmark to elucidate their exposure to UV filters bought during summer and winter.

2. Prospective study on 1000 young men to elucidate their exposure to UV filters measured as UV filters concentrations in their urine. Associations between their exposure to UV filters and reproductive health based on semen analyses, reproductive hormones and ultrasound scan of scrotum will be examined.

3. Prospective study on 200 mother- child pairs with simultaneous collection of amniotic fluid, maternal serum and urine at amniocentesis, supplemented with several unique samples of fetal blood collected at cordocentesis and cord blood collected at delivery to examine the distribution of UV filters in biological matrices of pregnant women and their fetus. Associations between UV filters concentrations in biological matrices and maternal hormones, birth outcome and children's growth and reproductive health based on measurements of reproductive- and  thyroid hormones at mini puberty and clinical examination at birth and at 3 month of age will be examined to elucidate possible endocrine disrupting effects of UV filters.
