Personal profile

Expertises

Development of simulation software for ear surgery; development of clinical database systems for ear surgery; temporal bone processing for tissue time labelling and bulk staining without prior decalcification.

Main research areas

Virtual simulation of ear surgery, initiator and head of the Visibe Ear Simulator (VES) project, a world wide academic freeware for trainees in ear surgery.

Temporal bone histology, development and pathology with a special view to undecalcified processing by cutting and grinding for studies on perilabyrinthine bone tissue dynamics and the pathogenesis of otosclerosis.

Developer of the OTOKIR surgical database freeware, now integrated in the commercial AuditData program for international dissemination.

Current research

Ongoing development and validation of the VES, currently the version 3.

Human histomorphometric temporal bone studies on the distribution and irregularities of viable and dead osteocytes and otosclerotic lesions in perilabyrinthine bone. Virtual simulation of cellular behavior and dynamics in around the inner ear. Cellular signalling in perilabyrinthine bone.

Surgery database development and implementation.

Potential conflicts of interest

VES project supported by the Oticon Foundation and by Medel
