My main expertise lies within prostate cancer diagnosis and treatment. Since 2011 my main research focus has been on prostate cancer diagnosis and management using MRI. I defended my PhD thesis in January 2015, entitled "Multiparametric MRI in detection and staging of prostate cancer" from University of Copenhagen. I have gained a specialized knowledge, as one in a few in Denmark using MRI and MRI-guided prostate biopsies in the diagnosis of prostate cancer. Our research within this field is bringing Danish urology and urological research at a high international level.; I won the 2016 PhD cup arranged by the Danish Broadcasting Corporation, Information (newspaper) and the Lundbeck foundation. I am currently in the process of my specialist training in urology.

Main research areas

Prostate cancer diagnosis and treatments; Multiparametric MRI in prostate cancer management

Current research

Our previous studies have shown that MRI in men with prior negative prostate biopsies can improve the detection rate of missed clinically significant cancer and allows for a more accurate assessment of cancer aggressiveness. Our current research further evaluates if MRI can be used as a screening tool, even before initial biopsy, to better identify patients with significant cancer and to assess if some men can avoid invasive biopsies. The results will contribute to the possible development of a whole new biopsy scheme with a possible paradigm shift in the approach to prostate cancer detection and may minimize many unnecessary biopsies and prolonged outpatients follow-ups in the future.
