Personal profile

Expertises

My main expertise and research as a consultant and associate professor in Urology lie within prostate cancer diagnosis and treatment with a special interest in MRI-directed diagnostic pathway and MRI-directed interventions. I defended my PhD thesis in January 2015, entitled "Multiparametric MRI in detection and staging of prostate cancer" and my doctoral thesis (DMSci / dr.med) in 2021 entitled “Pre-biopsy prostate MRI in detection and ruling out significant prostate cancer”; both from University of Copenhagen. Due to a close collaboration with department of radiology we have provided internationally award-winning and recognized research results over the past 13 years and is bringing Danish urology and urological research at a high international level.

Main research areas

Prostate cancer diagnosis and treatment; MRI-directed diagnostic pathway; MRI-directed prostate biopsies incl. transperineal biopsies; minimal invasive treatments.

Current research

Current research is centralized around: 1) Analysis of the implementation of the diagnostic "MR-first" strategy, where an MRI scan is first performed before deciding on a possible prostate biopsy in men under suspicion of prostate cancer, 2) the use of MRI prostate to guide focal brachytherapy of prostate cancer in the CAPFIRE study, and 3) the consequences of switching from transrectal to transperineal prostate biopsies. These are 3 focus areas which represent a paradigm shift in the diagnosis and treatment of prostate cancer in Denmark with potentially improved patient outcomes and fewer side effects. All projects are expected to be published continuously in international/national journals.
