malignant polyps; colorectal cancer
The optimal treatment of patients with malignant colorectal polyps is not known. Treatment options are either watchful waiting or subsequent bowel resection. Watchful waiting carries a risk of undertreatment, in case of remaining tumor in bowel wall, or spread of cancer cells to the lymph nodes. On the other hand, subsequent bowel resection may be overtreatment with concomitant risk of morbidity and mortality, if the polypectomy was already curative.
The aim of the PhD project is the examine the survival in patients with malignant polyps, and to determine recurrence and risk of lymph node metastases with special focus on histopathological predictors.
