Adult ADHD; EEG; Psychopathology
The current study is a prospective six weeks follow-up study comparing a group of medication naïve adult ADHD patients with a group of antipsychotic naïve, first episode adult patients with schizophrenia. During the six week period patients with ADHD will be treated with monotherapy methylphenidate (used as a tool compound to enhance dopaminergic activity), while patients with schizophrenia will be treated with aripiprazole (likewise used as a tool compound to dampen dopamine activity), both with dosages according to their clinical needs.
The two groups will be compared on psychophysiological parameters of basic information processing (EEG), psychopathology, questionnaires, blod tests as well as a broad range of cognitive measures.
The recruitment of patients with first episode schizophrenia is ongoing in the PECANS II study .
The adult ADHD patients are recruited through "The Adult ADHD project" by MD PhD student Julijana Le Sommer.
