Curriculum

Cand. polyt. in Biotechnology
'07, Technical University of Denmark

Finished masters project on HIV resistance against reverse transcriptase inhibitors, with an emphasis on multi-drug resistance mutations (MDR mutations) in january of 2007.

Currently pursuing a Ph.d. in HCV virology with an emphasis on entry and diversity across genotypes.

Has had extensive experience in variegated professions during years of college, most notably 1-2 teaching assistent positions each semester from the second year and onward.

I work as a research assistant on elucidating the entry of hepatitis C into the hepatocyte by utilizing the in vitro cell culture system that has been developed to encompass the six major genotypes here at Hvidovre Hospital.

Main research areas

I study the interplay between the process by which viruses enter their host cells to begin replication and the mechanisms by which the adaptive immune response attempts to curb this; such as the induction of potentially neutralizing antibodies. Understanding these interactions fully has great importance for vaccine development.

My research currently focuses on hepatitis C virus, which is a pervasive cause of end-stage liver disease. The acute infection is often asymptomatic and treatment is very expensive, leading to a high number of terminally ill patients. Vaccine development has proven very difficult.

I am affiliated with the Copenhagen Hepatitis C Program (CO-HEP) and so have activities both at Panum and Copenhagen Research Hospital, Hvidovre.
