The effect of a glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonist on cerebral blood flow velocity in stroke patients

Current research

Glucagon-like peptide 1 (GLP-1) receptor agonists are widely used in the treatment of type 2 diabetes. Over the past few years, GLP-1 receptor agonists have been investigated as possible therapies for cardio- and cerebrovascular diseases. By randomized clinical trials we investigate the effect of exenatide on cerebral blood flow velocity in the subacute phase of stroke in humans and in healthy volunteers. Furthermore, the molecular mechanisms of action of GLP-1 in ischemic stroke are investigated.
