Personal profile


I have an expertise in methods for measuring the structure of the brain and the spinal cord using different MRI methods and integration of those methods with functional measures of neuronal activity. I have experience with both method development on experimental ultra high field MRI systems and translation of those methods to clinically feasible techniques. I also teach integrative neuroimaging at the Sino-Danish Centre (SDC) at the Chinease Achademy of Science in Beijing, China in collaboration with Aarhus University.

Main research areas

My main work is within new methods for measuring the microstructure of the living brain. This is mainly done with diffusion weighted MRI and MR spectroscopy. I work with characterization of the healthy brain and diseases like multiple sclerosis and traumatic spinal cord injury.

Current research

My current main project is on characterization of brain network microstructure with ultra high filed MRI in healthy and  in people with multiple sclerosis. We combine the strenght of our new 7T MRI scanner with state of the art methods for measurements of neuronal transmission with brain stimulation techniques. Besides from this, I work with method development for increasing the specificity of diffusion MRI.
