Personal profile

Expertises

Infectious disease specialist.

Main research areas

My researh areas are focused on the characterization of  chemokine and chemokine receptors encoded by Epstein-Barr virus (EBV), Cytomegalovirus (CMV), Human herpesvirus 6, Kaposis-sarcoma-associated-herpesvirus (KSHV) and poxviruses in order to understand their role in health and disease.

Current research

1. Characterization of the EBV encoded chemokine folded fusion-protein gL and its potential interaction with human chemokine receptors. To this end a virus-free fusion assay has been developed.

2. Characterization of ELR and non-ELR forms of the CMV encoded chemokine UL146 in order to test the hypothesis that different circulating CMV-strains target different leukocyte populations (lymphocytes vs. neutrophils) in order to evade the immune system and disseminate.
