Expertises

Endocrinology; pharmacology; clinical research; gastrointestinal hormones, diabetology; metaanalysis; teaching.

Main research areas

My research interests encompass the regulatory peptides of the pancreas and gut and their importance in the regulation of the functions of the gastrointestinal tract and metabolism. With special interest in the role of bile acids in human metabolism, my research has had a particular emphasis on bile acid-induced secretion of gut hormones – particularly the incretin hormone glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1).

Current research

Bile acids in glucose metabolism, bile acid diarrhoea; pharmacology of bile acid sequestrants and metformin, gastric bypass; atrial natriuretic peptides; metaanalysis; prediabetes.
