Main research areas

Patellar tendon adaptation to resistance training in older adults; Resistance training as intervention against age-related loss of muscle mass and muscle function.

Current research

My current research project investigates biomechanical, biochemical and morphological changes of the patellar tendon in response to regular resistance training in older adults. The research will improve the understanding of extracellular matrix biology in ageing connective tissue.

In addition, I am conducting a large multidisciplinary randomized trial which investigates the potential of regular resistance training to maintain or improve muscle mass and muscle function as well as cognitive function, brain MR imaging parameters and general health.
