Main research areas

The focus of my research lies in the loss of beta cell mass with type 1 diabetes. With the use of pro-inflammatory in vitro setups using beta cells, we are investigating the posible use of stem cells in aiding beta cell regeneration or survival under these conditions.

Current research

Mesenchymal stem cells elicit a broad range of functions, where they for one have been shown to have positive effects in regard to beta cell regeneration and survival in both in vitro and animal model settings. We aim to investigate the molecular mechanisms that elicit these effects, by examining the pathways of communication (e.g. secretome) between beta cell and mesenchymal stem cell.
