Digital pathology; liver pathology; urologic pathology

Main research areas

Professor of digital pathology, specializing in development and validation of digital methods in diagnostic pathology and in education and research. In addition, specialization in liver diseases (both non-neoplastic and neoplastic) and in urologic pathology, primarily prostate cancer. My research also include studies of colorectal cancer. The research is basal and translational, attempting to optimize personalized medicine by studying tissue biomarkers.

Current research

My current research focuses on digitalization of the diagnostic process, including automatic assessment of cancer biomarker. By this, biomarker assessment will be more accurate, faster and devoid of interobserver variation. Studies have shown very promising results in breast cancer and in sentinel node diagnostics. In addition, other studies attempt to replace manual work by digital methods, including second opinions, consultations for other pathology departments and exchange of patient-relevant tissue specimens between different pathology departments.
