Current research

I am interested in prospective child and adolescent developmental studies which are able to trace the emergence of psychopathological symptoms. This allows for unique insight into the early cognitive and neural processes that predate onsets of psychiatric disorders.

One early cognitive development is the crystallization of the self-concept. Self disturbances are highly relevant to a range of psychiatric disorders, such as depression and schizophrenia, as are the disturbances of the brain network which underlies self-related cognition and its dynamics with other brain networks. Using functional neuroimaging, I investigate how self disturbances and functional brain networks contribute to the development and course of psychiatric disorders.
