Current research

My current research focuses on the development of RNA-based therapeutics, particularly antisense oligonucleotides (ASOs), for diseases with unmet clinical needs. Key research areas include migraine and neurological disorders, inflammatory and metabolic diseases, and osteoarthritis. My work covers the translational development of oligonucleotide therapeutics from target identification and molecular design to in vitro screening, delivery strategies and preclinical proof-of-concept

Main research areas

My research focuses on RNA therapeutics, with particular expertise in antisense oligonucleotides (ASOs) and more than 15 years of experience in RNA biology, including siRNA, microRNA and non-coding RNA. My work spans therapeutic target identification, oligonucleotide design and screening, drug delivery and preclinical evaluation. A central aim is to translate molecular discoveries into new treatments for unmet clinical needs, with current research focusing on neurological and inflammatory diseases, migraine and pain, metabolic disease and osteoarthritis.

I am Senior Researcher at the Translational Research Center (TRACE), Rigshospitalet, and Associate Professor at DTU Health Tech, where I lead research groups across both institutions. Through the Technical University Hospital (TUH) collaboration between Rigshospitalet and DTU, my research bridges molecular and engineering sciences with preclinical and clinical research to advance RNA-based therapeutics towards clinical translation.
