Aims and objectives

To develop research strategies and conduct patient-centred clinical research in cooperation with hospitals in the Capital Region of Denmark and to conduct scientific supervision of Ph.D. students.

To increase implementation of evidence-based knowledge in clinical practise by offering courses in basic research methodology and dissemination.

To initiate cross-scientific research programmes specifically related to the Body & Cancer database.

Focus areas

UCSF research strategy incorporates the Centre for Integrated Rehabilitation of Cancer Patients (CIRE) (2012-2017) and involves a cross-scientific, cross-sectoral and multidisciplinary collaborative programme that offers new theoretical and clinical strategies in the development and evaluation of rehabilitative interventions along the cancer continuum.

Disciplines, methods and tools

The CIRE programme consists of nine clinical intervention studies, three public health-related studies and three cross-cutting analyses.

The intervention studies are based on the concept EEX-ACT:

1) Early initiation of an intervention from time of diagnosis and during cancer treatment;

2) EXercise in combination with supportive modalities; and

3) patient ACTivation in own health care in the transition from the clinical setting to the community.

UCSF combines quantitative and qualitative research methods to understand the functional, emotional, social and physiological mechanisms involved in the trajectory of different patient groups.

The EEX-ACT concept is transferred and applied within different clinical specialities, e.g. patients with neurological diseases (2016-2021).
