Organization profile

Aims and objectives

The hospital has a total of 90 beds – 78 In-Patient beds and 12 beds in the emergency department.
Almost all our patients are acutely admitted, a few is referred to us by other departments in the Region. Every year 15.000 patients are admitted at Amager Hospital.
The hospital furthermore provides care and treatment for 48.000 individual Out-Patient consultations in our 4 ambulatories (Endocrinology, Cardiology, Geriatric medicine and Lung disease) and 21.000 consultations for Out-Patients referred to us by 1813.

Our In-Patient beds are divided in 4 departments; The Department of Pulmonary and Lung disease, the Department of Cardiology, the Department of General Medicine and the Department of Geriatric Medicine.

We continuously strive to deliver the highest possible standard of care and professional evidence-based treatment throughout the organization.

One of our main goals is how to convert a hospitalization to an out-patient treatment instead. For that purpose, we have developed a collaboration with the general practitioners in the region. In many cases the patient can avoid an overwhelming hospitalization, and instead be examined and treated in our out-patient Department of General Medicine, the following day.

Team spirit is key and enables a joint effort across areas of education and wards.
We prioritize education highly and train medical students, junior doctors, nursing students and medical secretary students, to ensure a high level of expertise.

Focus areas

Better diagnostics, care and follow-up for patients suffering from acute medical diseases often in combination with chronic medical diseases, polypharmacy in the elderly patient and better treatment of type 2 diabetes.

Disciplines, methods and tools

We do prospective descriptive and intervention studies.
