Aims and objectives

The Respiratory Unit focus on characterisation and management of obstructive lung diseases, i.e. asthma, COPD and the overlap between asthma and COPD.

The main objectives are to investigate the impact of early life predictors, biomarkers and impact of lifestyle, including obesity, on incidence and long-term outcome of obstructive lung diseases.

Focus areas

Our focus areas are:

  • O2Matic device to  control oxygen delivery in acute exacerbation of COPD
  • Predictors of COPD and outcome of COPD in adult life
  • The management of asthma during pregnancy (MAP) program focusing on risk reduction
  • Management of severe asthma, including biological therapy and importance of non-adherence
  • Decision support systems for self-management and tele health for patients with COPD
  • Characterisation and outcome of individuals with overlap between Asthma-COPD
  • Management and outcome of non-cystic fibrosis bronchiectasis
  • Risk factors for non-reversible airflow limitation and long-term outcome in never smokers with asthma
  • Occupational risk factors for asthma and COPD
  • Early life predictors, life style and obstructive lung disease in adulthood – with special reference to the impact of childhood BMI
  • Pulmonary rehabilitation and physical exercising for patients with COPD
  • Palliative care of patients with end-stage lung disease
  • Leisure time activity, changes in body weight and air pollution as risk factors for incident asthma and COPD
  • Oxygen saturation in health and disease with special focus on domiciliary oxygen therapy
