Aims and objectives

Research Unit of Clinical Nursing aims to initiate and carry out research within the field of clinical nursing, based on the hospital focus areas and need for knowledge. Furthermore, the research unit contributes to development of the nursing staff scientific competencies related to research and development of evidence based nursing practice.

Focus areas

The research unit currently has the following focus areas:

  • Optimizations of patients' coping and action competencies - with focus on elderly, chronically ill patients and their relatives.
  • Development of nurses' competencies related to monitoring patients' vital signs - with focus on Early Warning Scores

Previously we have worked with coping, self-efficacy, health-related quality of life, physical functioning, anxiety, and depression in different patient groups, such as patients with cancer, COPD, alcoholic liver disease, and fibromyalgia.

The research unit works with both quantitative and qualitative methods, including:

  • Randomised controlled trials
  • Quasi-experimental studies
  • Scale translation and validation
  • Grounded Theory
