Systematic Medical Follow-Up of Patients with Dementia

Abstract

Patients with dementia may experience a wide range of symptoms and co-morbidities which will require investigations and interventions initiated by physicians. However, patients with dementia may be met by barriers which need to be overcome in order to receive the medical care needed. This includes preplanned follow-up in order to manage co-morbidities, monitor progression and new-onset symptoms, review of medication, alcohol and substance abuse, and legal issues. Focus on the health and well-being of the caregiver is another important aspect of medical management of patients with dementia.
