Abstract
The diagnosis of PTSD has undergone significant changes in recent years. Complex PTSD is a new diagnosis introduced in ICD-11. This diagnosis requires that, in addition to the well-known PTSD symptoms, patients exhibit disturbances in self-organisation, emotional dysregulation, and interpersonal difficulties. The focus on individual development within interpersonal contexts aligns closely with the psychodynamic understanding of pathogenesis, symptomatology, and treatment. This review describes the foundation for this approach, treatment guidelines, and evidence.
