Abstract
This review summarises the conclusions of the literature on bullying during surgical training, which is a significant issue with hazardous consequences. Bullying not only may have serious organisational consequences in terms of an increased employee turnover rate, it has also been associated with poor employee performance and leading to an increased risk of burnout and stress, which may also constitute a threat to patient safety. There is a need for strategies for creating a positive culture during surgical training, and more studies are warranted in order to evaluate the efficacy of strategies to prevent bullying.
