Abstract
Background: Nursing education in Denmark has undergone many changes, but continues to be the object of political and societal discussions. Research shows that political discourse influences education, but there is a lack of knowledge about how this influences the students. Aim: The aim, using a critical policy analysis, was to examine how political and societal changes influence the curriculum and how these processes influence the students’ subjectifications related to nursing education. Method: Policy analysis based on Bacchi and Goodwin’s method ‘What’s the problem represented to be’ combined with student interviews. Results: The study reveals three main discourses in policy related to nursing education. The students’ subjectifications relating to the discourses are different in the academic and clinical aspects. The students construct their subjectification through the clinical aspects. Conclusion: The study shows how political discourse influences the students in education and underscores how much influence these have over the students’ learning.
