Abstract
For the first time ever in Denmark, an interdisciplinary, clinical database has been established containing surgery, pathology, oncology and nursing data from the perioperative period for women having undergone ovarian cancer surgery.
The care-provision database was developed by a working group consisting of representatives from the five gynaecologyoncology specialist centres in Denmark, Roskilde Hospital, the Unit for Perioperative Nursing (EPS) and the office of the Danish Gynaecological Cancer Database (DGCD). The working group defined relevant variables concerning core nursing areas based on recommended targets in the EPS guidelines. Perioperative care-provision data have been entered into the database since February 2011. It is now possible to compare surgery, pathology, oncology and nursing data for the perioperative period for the first time in Denmark. The DGCD office provides data extracts twice annually, which can be used locally and nationally for quality monitoring and development of care provision and treatment. The database is a knowledge bank providing unlimited
opportunities to optimize nursing and treatment of ovariancancer patients as well as to strengthen nursing research in Denmark, in order for us to be able to compare ourselves internationally in the future.
