Guidelines for managing cardiovascular risk: an evolving area

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: To reflect on the need for guidelines to assist clinicians in the management of cardiovascular risk in HIV-infected patients.

RECENT FINDINGS: Over the past eight years guidelines for the management of dyslipidemia and metabolic complications of HIV infection have been developed and revised as new information becomes available.

SUMMARY: Current guidelines for managing cardiovascular risk in HIV patients are limited by the currently available data, but nonetheless provide a useful approach to assist clinicians.
