Abstract
There have been worries of a potential negative effect of the fasting practice on surgeon's skills. We set out to examine the effect of fasting for a single surgeon during the fast and after the fast was broken. We examined the skills of the surgeon in a previously developed model for training in laparoscopic surgery. Foetor ex ore was also examined during and after the fast. Fasting did not affect the surgical skills, but resulted in increased foetor ex ore. Abstaining from eating and drinking during the daytime does probably not negatively affect surgical skills, but increases foetor ex ore.
