Abstract
This paper builds upon a diabetes prevention study in general practice in Denmark which has an objective to reduce participants’ blood sugar level. Drawing on Foucault’s concept of problematisation and dispositif, the paper makes use of a relational analytical gaze to describe the unpredictability and complexity involved in citizen-centred health promotion and prevention. The analysis focuses on some of the practical implications of the epistemology of efficacy and effectiveness trials. It concludes that the specific intervention can be seen as a typical example of a social hygienic power strategy that transpires as an individualization of collective responsibility.
