Since its identification in 1973, rotavirus has been shown to be the leading cause of gastroenteritis in infants and young children. In Europe and United States rotavirus gastroenteritis is the cause of numerous hospital admissions. Gastroenteritis can cause serious social and familial strain for the affected families, as well as considerable economic consequences in both indirect and direct medical costs. The aim of this study is to describe the familial impact of rotavirus gastroenteritis in infants and young children.
