Intro: There is a two to threefold higher prevalence of type 2 diabetes among persons with severe mental illness (SMI) compared to persons without (4,5) and the age of onset of diabetes is approximately 10-20 years earlier among persons with SMI.
Metoder: The project will be based on a longitudinal register study of the entire Danish population. Data will be obtained through linkage of national individual-level register data from different registers
Resultater (forventede): A better understanding of the relationship between SMI and diabetic complications that will help identify how and why some persons with SMI develop complications.
Diskussion/impact (forventet): enhance the possibilities of prevention, early diagnose and treatment of type 2 diabetes and diabetes complications in persons with different types of SMI and hopefully reduce the inequality related to SMI.
