Aktuel forskning

I study the relationship between brain and behavior in healthy, at-risk and psychiatric child and adult populations using structural and functional neuroimaging and behavioral, cognitive and biological assessments. I am especially interested in how this relationship changes over time and how it is influenced by e.g. personality, environment (physical activity, stress, alcohol, season) and biological (hormones, genes) factors. Study populations include healthy children, adolescents and adult subjects, as well as 22q11, schizophrenia, and affective disorder, and healthy twin populations. My recent focus is on population neuroscience i.e. investigating cohorts representative of general populations or specific subpopulations (e.g. capturing genetic makeup, age and sex distributions, social-economic and health status, and culture). Such approach is necessary if we truly want to understand the complex interplay of multi-dimensional factors that emerge on different timescales and drive developmental cascades in individual’s brain and body health through the lifespan. In-depth human and translation studies are needed to uncover the mechanisms underlying observed causalities and patterns of change and association.
